Taming Cognitive Distortions Through Coaching

This presentation focuses on neuro-behavioral coaching strategies and will highlight the coaching model that we utilize across our credential and professional development programs. The presenters will present ways to build coaching capacity amongst staff, program mentors, and coaches. Presenters will also discuss ways to create psychological safety within the coaching relationship, identify common feedback triggers, and engage participants in a coaching clinic.

Presenters:
Yalda Jamal received her Bachelors of Arts in Communication from New York University and her Masters Degree in Teaching from Chapman University. Most recently, she received an Administrative credential with Center EdX. Over the last ten years, Yalda has had extensive experience in Secondary Education, as a high school history teacher in the Bay Area, and also has had the privilege of working with staff and at -risk students at a Continuation High School that received model commendations with her collaboration and service as the head of the WASC site committee. Yalda moved to Southern California and joined the Las Virgenes School district in 2016 as a middle school social science teacher, as well as 504 and ELD coordinator. During her time there, Yalda worked closely with the school community, working on improvements that collectively led to the school being honored as a California Distinguished School. Yalda believes in leading with empathy and authenticity and is now serving as a teacher mentor and Induction Coach for the Center EdX program. 

Valerie Louthian is the Program Coordinator for the LVUSD Center for Educational Excellence.  She has her Master's and Credential in Early Childhood Special Education and most recently served as a Special Education Program Coordinator for LVUSD. Ms. Louthian authored and launched an Early Childhood Education Certificate program in June 2022 through Center EdX to support teachers who need the required 24 ECE units to teach Transitional Kindergarten by 2023-2024. This program currently serves teachers from 17 districts in CA. Additionally, Ms. Louthian supports the Preliminary and Clear Admin Credential Programs, Teacher Induction Program, and Microcredential Program.
