This fall marks the implementation of CTC's new standards and associated Teaching Performance Expectations for the preparation of Education Specialists to teach students with Mild/Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) and Extensive Support Needs (ESN). The new standards and TPE's are built on current needs for equity, inclusion, teacher collaboration, and student-centered learning environments for students with IEPs, an often marginalized group. Mentor teachers and others will be introduced to the new standards and TPE's, and its research framework that promotes carefully-planned, individualized lessons and progress monitoring, as well as incorporation of academic, language, cultural, social and emotional learning. A specific new area of learning for many mentor teachers may be the broadening of credential authorizations to include most of the disability areas in the former Moderate/Severe Education Specialist credential that are now also in the MMSN credential authorization. Participants will then take part in a workshop activity to identify their own areas in which they need to add to their support skills and knowledge. Ideas for guiding induction candidates' Individual Learning Plans will be presented, and many resources will be shared.
