One of the most challenging issues facing schools across the U.S. is the retention of new male teachers of color. LAUSD in Partnership with California State University, Northridge (CSUN) has scaled-up work developed in the Compton Male Teacher of Color Network (CMTCN) to increase retention rates for new male teachers of color in LAUSD through the Los Angeles Male Teachers of Color Network (LAMTCN) grant. The LAMTCN grant was established to determine how best to meet the challenge of retaining male teachers of color as a way to help diversify the teacher workforce in California. During this presentation, the team will discuss the implementation of Affinity Groups within the current induction program as well as a protocol instrument used to support Male Teachers of Color (MToC) during Affinity Group meetings. Participants will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of:
• The need to support new male teachers of color
• The use of Affinity Groups in the LAUSD Induction Program to support and retain male teachers of color
• Initial findings on the new male teacher cohorts developed this year within the induction program
• School site administrative support for the program
• Next steps for the 2023-2024 school year FULL
